Shepherds Pie and Christmas Shopping

We'd promised to take the boys shopping for their remaining present list - for Mike and us two. Set off at about 10 to avoid the crowds and, managed a parking place on our favourite floor. Of course 'it isn't where daddy parks' but they agreed it was fine. Mike had come up with a couple of suggestions for them so that was easy - and the shop had the DVD required, Morecambe and Wise Christmas special.
Next stop 'Smiggles' , always full of excited children trying out the stationery. It's full of very colourful pencil cases, notebooks, pens, rubbers etc etc. That was Pam sorted - she's always borrowing my stuff. Then I sat outside with Josh whilst Pam helped Harry choose mine. Josh's favourite gane is 'what's your favourite'; to-day it was possession, food and bird. He said his fav bird was small, brown and squeaks, what's it called Granma. I was stumped. Sara later said it was a House Sparrow!!! There I was sorting through my Aus birds......After an icecream to celebrate success, I strapped my watch to Harry's wrist and we agreed to meet in 20 minutes. They wanted to visit the nearby computer games shop. We mosied about a bit and they were waiting for us as arranged.
I made the meat part of a shepherd's pie last night with a lot of sous chef help from Pam. After lunch, Mike and the boys went to a friend's house for a swimplay session, I finished off the pie and we went to Cole's in Kenmore for the veggies and a bottle of Merlot. The wine is not sold in supermarkets here, it's sold in bottle shops- usually owned by one of the two supermarkets, Cole and Woolworths.
As soon as Sara arrived home from Sydney and had a half hour rest, we set off to collect the boys' Christmas presents. Sara wasn't sure of how to get there so I had to go to map read. Mike was asked to put the oven on at 5.55 and we weren't back until 7. He'd turned the oven down and put the water on ready for the prepared veg. I'd left, bless him. Although Josh was rather suspicious of this unknown dish - I told him it was English lasagne with potatoes instead of pasta - it all went down really well, thank goodness. Harry remembers having it in the UK but 'this is better'. Flattery will get him.....
We're having an early start to-morrow for a day's birding.
